Tips for better notes
What improves note quality the most, before and during the recording.
Sound
- Speak clearly, at a normal pace. No need to speak loudly.
- Limit noise: door closed, fan away from the microphone, no paper rustling near the device.
- Place the device between you and the patient, microphone unobstructed, at a reasonable distance.
- Watch the level bars at the start: if they don't move, the wrong microphone may be selected.
During the exam
The Scribe only hears what is said. Say out loud what you are doing and what you observe:
- announce the exam: "I'm going to examine your knee";
- describe what you do, even without exact terminology: "I'm palpating the inner side…";
- state findings as you go: vital signs, range of motion, response to palpation;
- state your impression and plan out loud before the patient leaves, or dictate them right after.
Context
- Choose the right category before generating: it determines the structure of the note.
- Put what the conversation doesn't contain in Additional details: vital signs taken by the nurse, a previous note, results.
- Add useful documents (results, a photo of the wound) as attachments.
- For a complex visit, choose Thorough mode, or let Auto decide.
After the note
- Always read the note and check doubtful passages in the transcript.
- If the note isn't right, regenerate it with another category or another mode rather than rewriting it all.
- Making the same correction often? Add it to your note preferences: it will apply to all your next notes.
- Rate the note: your feedback helps us improve the scribes.
